I knew when this came out that it was an appalling record, wretched even by 1989's "give everything a house mix" standards. Not even something you can call a guilty pleasure. It is to Clark's own "Hooked on Classics"—in turn, an abysmal rip-off of Walter Murphy's "A Fifth of Beethoven"—as "Hooked on Classics" was to the original works: inferior by an order of magnitude. It is like if someone who hated dance music and had only ever heard acid house described to him over the phone then tried to make a parody of it, and finally decided to scrap it all and take a dump in your headphones instead.

But I couldn't help myself. I had to get it. At some point in a moment of sensibility, I got rid of it, and then 25 years later I spotted a copy and bought it yet again. Am I some kind of psychopath?
