Bamako Nights captures the incendiary genius of Lobi Traoré, a soulful singersongwriter and blazing electric guitarist of Mali, who died too young - just 49 years old - in 2010. Lobi produced five studio albums during his career, as well as four live releases, including the solo acoustic session Rainy Season Blues Glitterhouse 2010. But Bamako Nights offers the deepest and most intimate record of this artists astounding power on stage in a small Bamako nightclub. Recording Location. Bar Bozo, Bamako, Mali. Submit Corrections. Lobi Traoré. Bamako Nights: Live at Bar Bozo, 1995. In 1995 Lobi was still beginning his career and became a regular act with his songs of social life, philosophy and his people. He filled the bar week in and week out. Album opener Ni Tugula Mogo Mi Ko is quite literally one man and his guitar. A slow almost calming tune in which Traores extraordinary guitar playing is on full show, prompting the audience to clap, shout and whistle in approval. Shortly after this album was recorded Bar Bozo was closed down. At only seven tracks, this is quite a record. A talent that deserted us all too soon and a reminder that he probably still had his finest hour to come. More on Lobi Traore on the Glitterbeat website here. All words by Paul Scott-Bates. Your feedback for Bamako Nights: Live At Bar Bozo 1995. A live recording of the late, great Lobi Traore from 1995. The sound quality is raw but immediate and perfectly captures the electric blues of this sorely missed Malian guitar virtuoso. The excitement of these recordings is palpable and vital. Rarely has a live album catapulted me into what I imagine to bethe experience of a small and sweaty nightclub in Bamako. Intoxicating Lobi Traore seems to cross between delicate, acoustic, traditional Malian music and full on, Crazy Horse style, amped-up desert blues. Check this out and then track down as many recordings as you can of this under-appre. The man in his element. Bamako Nights: Live at Bar Bozo 1995. Label: Glitterbeat US Release Date: 2013-11-15 UK Release Date: 2013-11-18. If this is not the greatest live Malian pub rock album of all time then I want to hear the other one. Even the drunk guy who sings along in Ni Tugula Mogo Mi Ko is a contributor. The French producer Yves Wernet recorded Bamako late at night in an unglamorous, downtown nightspot, dark and often crowded. It didnt cater to elites, but working people. The atmosphere is wedged and yet the sound rings like churchbells even whi. Track List. Ni tugula mogo mi ko. Sigui Nyongon son fo. Ne Kele Kanuba. Bamaku N'tichi.
