Born and raised in the Southern United States, Clower was best known for his stories of the rural South and was given the nickname The Mouth of Mississippi. Clower was born in Liberty, Mississippi, and began a two-year stint in the Navy immediately after graduating from high school in 1944. Upon his discharge, in 1946, he was a Radioman Third Class RMN3 and had earned the American Campaign Medal. Album 1973 20 Songs. Clower Power. Jerry Clower. Generally, there's no explaining why you dislike a particular comedian, you just know that he or she grates on your nerves. Clower, however, pushes those buttons more than most, possibly because his country cornball act is often either too obvious or too backwoods for city dwellers. I've made some personal peace, enough to recognize that Clower Power, with cuts like Ole Brumey Wasn't Runnin' a Coon and The Ole Timey Ice Box, is a good Clower album, one that will undoubtedly make some people chuckle heartily. In fact, some could even argue that it captures him in his early-'70s prime.
